Who were the Ancient Greeks?
The Ancient Greeks were a group of people who lived in Greece and the countries we now call Bulgaria and Turkey, around 3,500 years ago. The Ancient Greeks developed many new ideas surrounding science, philosophy, religion, architecture, and art. Ancient Greece was split into many states, each ruled by their own government. Each state had it's own laws, money, and government, but they all shared the same language and religion. Greeks influenced the modern world hugely, especially in areas of arts, philosophy, mathematics, literature, and politics. On this website I will be exploring two areas of Ancient Greek Civilisation- religion and social organisation.
